Diabetes in cats

Diabetes in cats is not very well known so owners must be aware of the signs and symptoms of this disease before it occurs. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition in which a deficiency of the hormone insulin impairs the body's ability to metabolize sugar. It is one of the most common endocrine (hormonal) diseases of cats. Diabetes in cats  strikes 1 in 400 , though recent veterinary studies note that it is becoming more common lately in cats. Symptoms diabetes in cats are similar to those in humans. Diabetes in cats occurs less frequently than in dogs.

Symptoms

Cats will generally show a gradual onset of the disease over a few weeks, and it may escape notice for a while. The condition is unusual in cats less than seven years old. The first obvious diabetes in cats symptoms are increase in water intake and urine output. The overload of glucose in the blood stream is relieved somewhat by loss into the urine. The loss of water in the body leads to dehydration, and animals compensate for this by drinking much  more.
Another sign of diabetes in cats are weight loss in spite of an increased appetite. The body needs glucose for energy and with insulin resistance it can’t seem to get enough, especially into the brain. At the same time, calories in the form of glucose are being lost into the urine. The brain feels that the body is hungry and so the cat’s appetite increases, but because the calories are being lost and not utilized, there is weight loss. Furthermore, insulin promotes the building of proteins from amino acids in the body. When there is not enough insulin, proteins break down (especially in muscle), and this also contributes to weight loss. Another diabetes in cats symptoms are poor skin and coat condition and breathing abnormalities.
Treatment
The treatment for diabetes in cats can be unique for every cat. The first consideration is diet, where the goal is to bring the cat to an ideal body weight and to keep the blood glucose levels consistent. An obese cat should be fed 60-70% of its calculated caloric requirement to reduce its body weight over 2-4 months. Home cooked food is always the preferred option for diabetes in cats over commercial foods since canned food tends to have a higher proportion of carbohydrates. Try to get hold of a cat food calculator and determine the type and quantity of fats, proteins and carbohydrates that you can safely feed your cat.
Another treatment for diabetes in cats are through oral pills. The oral anti-diabetic drug, Glipizide, stimulates the release of insulin from pancreas and in some cases even curbs production of glucose. These drugs can be useful only if the pancreas is working. But these drugs have been shown in some studies to damage the pancreas further, reducing the chances of remission for cats. They have also been shown to cause liver damage.

Insulin usually metabolizes faster in cats than in humans. Insulin treatment may be required for diabetes in cats that have decreased insulin production and have become insulin-dependent. Insulin is the drug most commonly used in treating diabetes in cats. Types of insulin are typically characterized by their duration of actions like short-acting insulin, intermediate-acting insulins, and long-acting insulins. And there are also insulin for diabetes in cats that can be characterized by their source, such as beef, pork, and human recombinant insulin.

Effective treatment of diabetes in cats is based on the severity of the disease. Intensive care is required in cases where the disease has progressed beyond the initial levels and  Insulin administration should be timed with meals so that maximum glucose uptake into the cells, is possible.

Cats health should be become our attention too keep our cats healty,so that the way that cats care is one important thing, commit become a good owner to guard the cat from this scary disease.Improving your knowledge with “What is diabetes?,,Why it can be inferwith cats?..” or many more knowledge about it,it can be so helpful.

Training Cats – Toilet Training Cats

Toilet training cats is one of the most important trainings that you must give to your cat. If you are a cat owner, it is very necessary to train your cats to use the toilet for hygiene reasons for both cats health and the master. Toilet training cats has a long been a suggestion for keeping cats disciplined in terms of peeing and pooping. For the past few years, training cats has become prominent among most pet owners. Many pet owners prefer to toilet training cats to get rid of stinky cat urine smell and complete removal of pet litter from their homes.

Toilet training cats are easier task than you might think. Many techniques can be used for training cats to use the toilet, and you can even buy products that will assist you in toilet training cats. To learn toilet training cats, you need a good dose of patience. It will take time to teach your cat this method since cat’s are creatures of habit. They generally don’t take to new habits very quickly. This must be done gradually and with kindness. Don’t hit, scold, or punish the cat for not using the toilet right away.

Toilet training cats basically consists of a simple procedure:
  1. Gradually moving your cat's litter box closer and closer to the toilet, day by day toilet training cats are gradual, step-by-step process, consisting of making small changes to the location of the litter box and only continuing to the next step when your cat is entirely comfortable with its current situation. You might have to wait anything between 2 days or 3 weeks before moving on a next step in toilet training cats. You might even have to go back a step once or twice when it turns out that your cat wasn't ready to move on to the next toilet training step. Beware – toilet training cats takes a lot of your patience.
  2. The next step of toilet training cats is start elevating the cat's litter box. Put something non-slippery, just like newspapers or cardboard underneath the litter box. A normal rate to increase the height of the litter box would be about 5cm a day, but be very attentive to signs that your cat is not comfortable with the current height, and adjust the pace of raising the litter box accordingly. The cat litter box should be raised until it is at a level height with the toilet bowl. Throughout this process it is very important to keep the toilet lid open and the seat down, because your cat will get used to it and might even start climbing on the toilet seat in order to reach its litter box. If your cat still feel comfort until pass this step, then you can move on a next step in toilet training cats.
  3.  Replace the litter box with a "training box" is the next step that you can do. You have a few different options here, but the important thing to remember is to make sure the "training box" can hold your cat's weight if they step or jump onto it:
    • Lift the toilet seat and tape a piece of wax paper over the hole so that the toilet looks like a drum. Lower the seat over the wax paper. Add flushable litter.
    •  Lift the toilet seat and tape a bowl or aluminum pan to the edges. Put the seat down so that it holds the bowl in place.
    • Use a commercial training device, sold specifically for this purpose.
  4.  The last step in toilet training cats is, the transition into the cat using only the toilet. If using wax paper or an aluminum pan, cut a hole about one inch in diameter in the center and gradually increase the size of the hole until it is almost gone. If you're using a training seat, remove the rings, once at time. This is done to gradually get the cat used to urinating or defecating into water. Simultaneously, no matter which method you're using, reduce the amount of litter so that there is no litter when the paper, bowl, or device is removed.

Training cats to use the toilet can hold several advantages for every cat owner. The biggest advantage of having toilet training cats are that eliminates most of the disadvantages that using cat litter holds. Cat litter is expensive. After toilet training cats, you won't ever need to buy cat litter again. Cat litter boxes needs to be cleaned regularly or they will become smelly. With toilet training cats, the water in the toilet masks most of the offending smell and all you need to do is flush regularly - much simpler and easier than cleaning a litter box.

But there are also the disadvantages by training cats to use the toilet. The disadvantages of toilet training cats are like the toilet seats can be slippery and can be risk for the cats. Moving locations will also be harder for cat because a litter box can be moved easily but the cat will first need to get used to using the new toilet. With some cats this is no problem and they can become comfortable with the new toilet very fast, while other cats might be less adaptable.  And then there are some people who disagree about this toilet training cats bacause it’s unnatural for cats to use a toilet.

Cats health problems will concern all of us at one time or another. Sometimes they can be ill but if you can take care of your cat very well and always monitoring the cats health, they will behealty eventhough the posibility of cats health will be worst, but the ill at least once during their lifetime. When the cast health are not good or they’re get ill, they can’t talk to us but we can understand whether they’re ill or not through their changing behaviour.

If you can identify the cats health problem quickly before getting more serious, you will minimalize their suffering and also the veterinarian bills. There are some cats health problem indications and symptoms like vomitting, coughing, increased urination, hard breathing, sneezing that can help us to to know early about the illness.

Vomiting is an extremely common occurrence in cats health. But we have to know the differences between a perfectly healthy cat that vomits occasionally and the sick one. Cats who routinely vomit more than 3-4 times a week, may in fact have inflammatory bowel disease, an inflammation of the intestinal tract that can lead to malabsorbtion of nutrients and even lymphoma if left untreated and it also may indicate an upset stomach from something digested. Constant vomiting, blood in the vomit or dry heaves may indicate something else is going on.

Sneezing, coughing and running eyes can be from a cold or the flu. These symptoms will go away in a few days. Puslike discharges, drooling, listlessness and loss of appetite can indicate a more serious condition. Pale gums and tongue and lack of energy and appetite can be caused by anemia. With regards to cats health, sneezing may also be caused by two other cats health issues. These are both common causes. The first is herpes, and sneezing may be present when there is a flare-up. The second is leukemia, which is serious cats health issue. In feline leukemia, the cat's immune system is weakened, so it is more prone to asthma and sinus infections. Both of these ailments are caused by viruses, and typically cats are immunized against them when they are young. Neither is curable, but antibiotics can treat the secondary symptoms. Once again, preventive health care is the best way to prevent these disease.

If a cat is urinating more often than usual, the cat needs prompt medical attention. In order to know if your cat is urinating more than usual, you need to pay attention on cats health,  how often the cat normally urinates. Many healthy cats urinate anywhere from four to ten times a day in their litter box. If the cat is also drinking more than usual it also can be cats health issue,  he could be diabetic or have hyperthyroidism. Crying out while urinating is a symptom of urinary infection. Let the vet know about any other unusual behavior and check the cats health.

After determining what it is suffering from and know the condition of cats health, the next challenge is administering medication if needed. Pills should be swallowed whole and not crushed in its food. Before using ear medication, the ear should be cleaned with a cotton ball. Apply eye ointments in small amounts and avoid touching the eye itself with the tube or eye dropper. Give liquid medications in small amounts. Do not skimp or stop giving a medication because a cat looks better. Follow the veterinarian's instruction completely. It will help to upgrade the condition of yours cats health.

One of the most important to keep yours cats healt is,keep clean and clear the den from their excrement,to keep your cat healty.
